Monument on Aspen Grove's South End.........not a burial plot. |
Charles Elliot PerkinsFebruary 24, 1840 - November 9, 1907 |
Charles Perkins became president of the CB&Q Railroad. Rather then live in the corporate headquaters in Chicago, he chose to live in Burlington, Iowa. He chose to lead the company rather then micro-manage affairs. Edith Perkins donated the land now known as Perkin's Park to the city of Burlington and the Garden of the Gods to the state of Colorado. The monument was erected in the south side of Aspen Grove Cemetary on top of a hill, which at that time was very visible to every train that passed. Engineers would blow their horns as a salute to their past president.
