Dr. William Salter
Dr. William Salter was Pastor of the First Congregational Church for 64-years. He was a well known abolitionist who helped establish an underground railroad believed to have connected to his church. He detested slavery.
On the 12th of June, 1893 , Doctor Salter met with a great bereavement and at the same time had a narrow escape from death. William along with his wife and friends, were riding in a carriage in Aspen Grove Cemetery when a tree fell and killed her instantly.
